New school and new teacher means a fabulous DIY back-to-school gift.

I found this sweet apple mason jar idea at Tilly's Nest, you can find the original HERE.

It's super easy and doesn't require any major crafting know how.

You will need:

green leaves cut from construction paper or cardstock
mason jar
red paint (or spray paint)
sponge brush
rubbing alcohol

1.  I wipe down the mason jar with rubbing alcohol to clean any debris off the jar and then wash.

2.  I used Martha Stewart's Satin Acrylic Craft Paint in Tartan Red, but you could certainly use spray paint. Apply 2-3 coats using a sponge brush or paint brush allowing the coats to dry before you apply the next coat.

3. If you wanted you could distress your jar with sandpaper by lightly scraping it across the jar.  My son said it should stay as is so it doesn't look like a rotten apple.  Good point.

4.  Add the leaves with ribbon and fill with pencils!
