free summer printables

our family vacation

Last week we got back from a 6 day trip to Disneyland and Legoland California.  I haven't been to Disneyland since I was in fourth grade and my son has never been so this was quite a treat for all of us!!  We booked through AAA and I wasn't totally pleased with them when it was all said and done. I think if I had to do it over again I would have booked through Costco like we did with our cruise to Alaska.  Some of the information we received from them ended up not being correct- nothing major...oh well it was a fabulous trip regardless!!

I took all the pictures with my iPhone, I didn't want to lug my big camera around or risk it getting stolen.  I'm so glad I did...it was in the 80's the whole time and it was much easier with the phone.

We spent one day at Legoland and bought a 4 day hopper pass to Disneyland and California Adventures.  We went at a time that we thought it wouldn't be very crowded, boy were we wrong.  I'm sure it wasn't as crowded as summer time but it still seemed awfully crowded to me since school isn't even out.  Maybe everyone had the same idea we did.

Legoland was super cool, my son loved it...we did too!  You can definitely see it all in one day without being rushed.  My only complaint was you can't use your Lego VIP membership card at Legoland only the website and lego stores...I thought that was very strange and sneaky!

My son totally surprised us by going on a lot of the "thrill" rides, ones that I had to sweat and pray my way through as I watched him ride with my husband.  I tried to avoid anything too wild for fear of setting off my vertigo.

Disneyland and California Adventures were so much fun!  Once again my son loved the thrill rides especially Star Tours.  There was some he was not enamored with at all such as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Pinocchio.  Even though those rides were "harmless" the creepy music and darkness got to him.  I threw caution to the wind and went on way more rides then I thought I would - I did make one mistake...Space Mountain.  I didn't remember the ride from when I was smaller and my hubby only warned me right before I got on...uh yah.  I spent that whole ride with my eyes closed and praying I wouldn't toss my cookies.  That was the only ride I actually got queasy from.  I'll never let my hubby live that one down!

D-Man totally loved the Jedi Training!!  If you get a chance to go you should let your kiddos experience it.  They get to battle Darth Vader and the Phantom Menace.  The "Jedi Trainers" were great with the kids and moved the kids around like a well oiled machine.  As a former teacher I love seeing an organized group of kids!  lol

We saw quite a few shows too... Aladdin, Disney Junior, The World of Color...the parade, the Muppet's and Bugs Life.  They were all a lot of fun.  I know I keep saying fun...but it really was.  It took me back to when I was younger and seeing it all again through my son's eyes was really special.

We also walked through Downtown Disney and lookie what I found...
I didn't try one...it was way too hot for a cupcake!

We had such a blast, I miss it all ready!

office/craft room makeover

I finally finished my office/craft room...on Mother's Day no less!  This is going to be a long post so sit down with a cup of joe and read on...

My husband bought our house as a bachelor and looking back we probably should have sold it (when the market was better) and purchased a house together.  The market took a nose dive so we are staying in our little rambler for awhile.  We've been fixing it up and I was finally able to get this room done!  Of course there are a few more things I'd like to do but for the most part it's finished.

So this is the before...hideous right?!?  There's nothing on the walls because I had all ready started purging but as you can see they were cream with a green accent wall.

The  pole near the ceiling might seem strange but it was awesome when I had my business and was selling tutus, I stored them on the pole...I use it all the time now for different things.  I used the two tables for crafting and of course there's the carpet.  Yes the table cloths are in bad shape.  It's all just sad.

Here it is after a late day of ripping out the carpet...once again don't freak out about the creepy kid mannequin...my tutu model.  HAHA!!  Most of the stuff is stashed in the closet but it all came out for the remodel.  It's amazing how much crap I had in there.

After the paint job... It's painted a light grey.

Here we are with everything moved out and about to start sanding the hard wood floors.

Fast forward...here's the result... **cue the hallelujah music**

My goal for this room was to make it more functional, light and airy. I wanted all the furniture white ... so the colors for the room are white and grey with accents of pink and turquoise.

I got rid of a ton of stuff- really purged so much.  We made a couple of runs to the dump but I still had a lot of stuff I had to find a new home for since I got rid of so much storage.  I did manage to find a spot for everything and of course the craft table we made provided quite a bit.

I picked up an ikea tullsta chair on craigslist and then bought a new cover for it at ikea this weekend.  I also got a great stool that moves up and down from Freddies... it fits the table perfectly.

I scored the grey window panels from Urban Outfitters for $14.00/panel on sale.  I can't believe what a difference curtains make...they really bring a room together I think.

I painted my desk (you'll notice it was brown in the first images) and I also painted the filing cabinet.  I'm not really sweating about the cords and the black chair eye sore.  Eventually I'd like to get a new chair and a chandelier but I'm happy with it for now.

What do you think?!?

ruffles and rust vintage market

This past Friday my bestie and I headed to the Ruffles and Rust Vintage Market. A building full of vendors selling their vintage wares. It was pretty fun but my vertigo was awful- not sure if it was the crowds/ lights or building, I never let it stop me though so we carried on. I didn't end up with anything but my friend bought a few items.  It was nice to get away and have a girls night.

d-man's room makeover

The house is getting done slowly but surely.

I finally finished my son's room!  Here is the before picture.

You can see the lovely cream colored carpet, the paint job he had since he was a baby and it was a nursery as well as the cluttered up toys.

Here it is after the new paint...it's grey which I totally love!  We also picked him up a new bed courtesy of craigslist for a great deal.  Oh and by the way that diaper changing table was stored in his closet and used as storage.  We finally got rid of that eyesore.

And here it is after...

I would have loved to change the theme and purchased new bedding for him but we just didn't have the funds for that.  Maybe when he's older.

We pulled up the carpet and redid the floors ourselves so now all the bedrooms have hardwood along with the rest of the house.  I added a little rug next to his bed and put his white table in the corner (used to be in the living room) and repainted his name (above his bed) to red instead of aqua.  I organized his closet a bit to fit more of his toys and created more storage with bins so his actual room doesn't have toys everywhere.

I think it turned out pretty good...he had some anxiety over all the changes...he's very routine oriented...wonder where he gets that from?!?  :)

Naiad Soap Arts Review

I've been a huge fan of Naiad Soap Arts for a while now.  My favorite product is the Lemon Poppy Cake Sugar Whipped Soap...it's heavenly.   I also love the fact that Naiad Soap Arts always ships your order very quickly  AND Erin (owner and soap master extraordinaire) provides awesome customer service.

I was super excited to try out one of their *NEW* products the Cinnamon Coffee Whipped Cocoa Butter Scrub...oh my sounds great doesn't it?  It's wonderful!

"Our Fragrant Cinnamon Coffee scrub is made with Natural Cocoa Butter, high in vitamin E and easily absorbed by the skin, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, and Coffee Grounds for a more intense scrub. With a sweet Cinnamon, citrus scent!"

The scrub is very light, it rinses clean and does not leave your skin feeling oily.  Your skin is feels refreshed, smooth and baby soft.  Let's not forget the glorious smell either...yummers!

I would recommend this product and I would recommend any bath and body product from Naiad Soap Arts, I'm a huge fan and will remain a loyal customer!

The Cinnamon Coffee Whipped Cocoa Butter Scrub retails for $14.00.

*I received a sample in exchange for my honest opinion and review. *

Fifty Shades Of Grey

Okay okay...I'm sure you've heard of these books.  I myself read about the trilogy via The Heir to Blair.  They sounded interesting...and I'm always up for a new "interesting" book. All I can say is holy smokes!!! I'm about to start the third book.

Here's a synopsis of the first book:

"When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever."

Let's see how do I describe these books...HAHA...definitely x-rated!  They have taken blogs by storm and I guess there are talks of movies?!?  AND I saw them talking about the books on one of those tabloid shows last night like Access Hollywood or something.  So super popular...and if you're up for a somewhat twisted x-rated love story...go for it!  Have you read them??  Let me know what you think!
