books and paint

The painting is all done but we have so much more to do.  We're getting new counter tops on Friday and then we have to fit in re-finishing our hardwood floors.  I have to admit I'm tired!

Onto some book reads... I finally finished the Millennium series...the last book was tedious but I was determined to finish it.  All in all pretty good but like I said it's hard to make it through the last book.  I also downloaded the new JR Ward Black Dagger book, Lover Reborn, this morning on my kindle...I'm about half way through.  Love those books!!!  Off to read some more!

bunny push pops

I got the inspiration for these bunny push pops on pinterest here.  I burned my finger with hot glue but the cuteness was worth the pain.  I hope my son's class loves them.  Spring break next week- all ready?!?!

high on paint fumes

The painter dude has been here two days- he does awesome work!  All the bedrooms and bathrooms are painted...all that's left is touch ups and the kitchen.  The house is a total wreck- my OCD can barely handle it.  Tomorrow we're ripping out the carpet in our bedroom...oh tack strips how we love you!

Have a great weekend!!

Saw this on pinterest...loved it.

fixing it up

Well the housing market sucks as you all know unless you want to buy which we do.  We were going to rent our place out and then go ahead and purchase a new home but we decided the time line would not work.  There were some things we needed to fix up in our house before we are comfortable either selling it or renting it in the future.

We've decided to stay in this home another year or two and fix it up a bit.

There are so many great ideas out there especially on Pinterest.  There's almost too many ideas- I want to do it all but we have to stick to a strict budget.  We don't want to go into debt so we're going in baby steps.  Our living room is great as is so we are working on the kitchen and the bedrooms.

We just had a bigger hot water tank installed so that was quite PRICEY but well worth the expense.  It fits in our kitchen under a cabinet- weird eh?  Well we do live in a 1969 home so even with a small tank the 20 extra gallons make a huge difference.  We are also re-doing the counter tops, they are currently a  lovely country blue color. We're having it painted and are replacing some light fixtures.  We will eventually have the cabinets painted but like I said...baby steps.  I will of course post before/after pictures when everything is done.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are all getting repainted as well.  We are ripping up the carpets in the bedroom to expose the original hard wood flooring in the rooms.  Our living room/hallway all ready have had their floors refinished.  It has been a nightmare ripping up the carpets and removing the tack strips but we are determined to refinish them ourselves.  My office/craft room is getting a complete makeover.  Along with the floor and new paint on the walls I'm painting some existing furniture as well as adding a few new pieces.  I'm going to try and make a new craft table for my projects...we'll see how that goes.  All the rooms are also getting crown molding and new base boards so that will be a huge improvement!

All in all I really don't like home improvement projects, it seems like something ALWAYS goes wrong or not how you expected and the rooms are in total disarray but I know all of the improvements will help with the re-sell/renting.

Pictures coming soon!

Great Goods apron love

One of my bestie's put together a fabulous gift for me for my birthday a "kitschy kitchen basket".  It was filled to the brim with awesomeness.  The half apron from Great Goods caught my eye.  It definitely has a retro/vintage feel.  The quality was amazing...and yes I always check out the craftsmanship.  Since I sew a little I had to check out the back, it looks as good as the front!  :)  I contacted Great Goods to purchase one for another friend who is celebrating her birthday next month.  Doris (owner) was a total doll and shipped it the day I ordered it!

I highly recommend Great Goods!  Try to resist getting one!  Great Goods Etsy Shop

chicago

I just got back from spending my birthday weekend in Chicago with my longtime friend. We had an amazing time! It was my first time to the windy city and we managed to squeeze a lot into two full days.

We started at the Field Museum, I really wanted to see Sue the most complete T-Rex skeleton. She was pretty grand. (By the way I actually learned how to use my Canon on manual and not automatic. This trip was my first attempts...let me know what you think!)

We then headed to the Hancock Tower where you take a walking tour around the top...the tour is narrated by David Schwimmer.  Ha!  It was pretty impressive taking in all of Chicago!  This photo was taken through the window.

We shopped along the Magnificent Mile...I bought this fabulous purse in brown at Top Shop (I didn't take this pic).

You can find this ginormous Marilyn Monroe on Michigan Avenue.

We also checked out the Navy Pier...holy moly it was windy!  I ate for the first time at Margaritaville...good margaritas Jimmy! View from the end of the pier.

And the ferris wheel...

We rode the hard rail and the el train...that was...interesting.  Of course we had chicago style deep dish pizza at Giordano's.  It was TASTY!!  We even stayed the night at the Knickerbocker hotel...fabulous!
All in all it was great to catch up with my bestie and reminisce over old times.

It's been a long dizzy week with a sick munchkin home from school.  Fun times!!

One of my favorite flowers ...so nice on a wet and dreary day.  Bring on Spring!
