Year In Review Templates by The Fourth Bud

I happened to be checking Instagram last night and I saw this image of a gal who had created a "year in review" insert for her Christmas cards.  Get out of here!  I've never heard of one of these.  I did some googling and thought I could just make one myself so I started out creating one in photoshop but it was getting a little tedious.  I decided to google some more and found a couple of cool links.  I found a link to pinterest which led me to The Fourth Bud.  There are seven fun year in review templates to choose from and only $5/each!  All you need is a Adobe Acrobat Reader which will allow you to edit the pdf with your own text.  You don't have to fiddle faddle with the graphics or layout.   A lot more fun than the traditional Christmas letter in my opinion.  Very ideal also if you don't have a lot to say...I mean let's be honest some years are just boring.  :)

You can find The Fourth Bud website HERE.

diy holiday candy train

I remember receiving one of these candy trains from my piano teacher back when I was in Junior High so needless to say they've been around for awhile.

There are more elaborate trains out there but I think this one is simple and sweet.

You'll need:
  • Round Mints
  • Pack of Gum (these were VERY HARD to find, I checked several stored and finally found them at Bartell's)
  • Rolos or Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (I used Rolos because of nut allergies)
  • Hershey Kisses
  • Pack of Lifesavers
  • Hot Glue Gun
First you'll need to hot glue the ends of the peppermint wrapper to one side.  That way they are not sticking out when you glue them to the train.
Glue the Lifesavers to the gum pack.
Next glue the four peppermint wheels to the gum.  Make sure to glue the ends to the gum so the "nice" side is showing.
Lastly glue on the Hershey Kiss and Rolo.  Easy and cute!

Target Black Friday

I normally love all things Target but when I saw this commercial for their Black Friday sales I was totally annoyed! Don't get me wrong I love a good deal and we do give gifts at Christmas but the selfish message of this commercial is a bit over the top. Isn't it obnoxious? Sometimes I get tired of the whole "give me give me" vibe of the holiday season. My son was watching a Lilo and Stitch episode and it was Stitch's first Christmas. It was all about the presents.- when my son saw it he said...
"They're wrong Christmas isn't just about presents... it's about loving Jesus."
Melts my heart!

halloween treats

I whipped up some fun halloween treats for my son to give to his classmates. As a side note I totally miss his small preschool class sizes. He has 24 kids in his kindergarten class and needless to say it's bit more expensive with so many.

Bats and Mummies it is!  The idea came from Skip to My Lou and I printed off the tags from Anders Ruff.

what a month and it's not over yet...

I haven't been around lately, it's been a crazy month for us.  My grandma passed away, my husband has been out of town on business for two months, my vertigo has come back (Yes I'm doing my exercises), my husband for the one week he was home had to deal with kidney stones, and now we have a major decision we need to make for our family.  You definitely never know where life is going to lead you and why is it always really bad timing?  Oh wait yea I know...I'm not in control.  I need to remember that.

On a side note I just got back from a hectic three day trip to Charleston, SC.  It was only three days because it took pretty much a whole day to get there and back with sitting at the airport for layovers.  On another side note- I've had enough of flying into Chicago!  My goodness!  I rank that experience right up there with the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland...barf bag anyone?

Charleston is beautiful!  It was in the upper 70's-80's and everyone was so so nice there.  We squeezed a lot in with the short amount of time I had.  I saw all the islands, went to a few beaches, dipped my toes in the Atlantic, toured downtown, checked out houses, schools, had my first shrimp and grits oh and met up with my best online friend.  That sounds so cheesy- online and I "met" three years ago when I still had my business.  I designed her website for her.  We became friends and probably email each other oh jeez...anywhere from 10-30 emails in a week.  Double date in downtown Charleston it is...the hubbies had no choice.  I have to admit I was nervous but you know what?  It was like we'd been friends forever!  We had so much fun!!  The hubbies got along too so even better.  Jess is such a sweetheart...thanks lady!

Now it's time to catch up on laundry and get back to the daily grind of things.  Have a great week y'all!

a whole lot of purple...

My friend wanted me to create a tutu for her co-worker who is about to have a baby. She said she's anti-pink (no comment) and thought purple would be a good color choice...purple it is!  It's always fun making these since it's for friends and not "work" anymore and really who doesn't love a tutu?

Don't forget I have a tutu tutorial HERE which I've gotten a lot of great feedback on.

I'm a HUGE JR Ward fan as I've stated numerous times.  Her new fallen angel series book is out today and I'm so excited to read it!  You can grab yours here.

chocolate covered oreos

I've been seeing chocolate covered oreos everywhere these days for parties and events.  I did a google search on how to make them- I know it doesn't seem that complicated chocolate and oreos!  I found this tutorial by Amanda's Parties To Go on how to make them.  Seems easy enough. I didn't want to tackle the chocolate transfer sheet topper this round...just keeping it plain with chocolate.  I ordered my mold from Lori's Candy Station.

Pretty simple...melt your chocolate melts...pour a bit into the bottom of the mold...squish in a double stuffed oreo...pour more chocolate...tap and put in the fridge.

The over the top delicious cookie!

dresser redo

I've been searching high and low for a dresser that would fit into my son's closet.  He doesn't have a ton of room so I've always just kept his clothes in his closet in those hanging shelves.  They were fine when he was a baby but bigger clothes need a dresser.  The problem was the size of his closet, it had to be narrow enough to pull the drawers out.  My friend found a dresser that would work on Craigslist for me but it sold before we could purchase it.  Lucky for us he had another one (seeing all the dressers in his garage- he must be a hoarder or makes a few bucks buying and reselling on Craigslist).

The only problem with the dresser was the smell.  It had an awful musty old smell and no amount of Febreze or sachets solved the problem.  I talked to my furniture makeover expert and she told me I'd have to prime it and paint it to get rid of the odor.  *sigh* I hate painting furniture.  Hats off to those who love it but it drives me crazy!  I sucked it up though.  Of course my son wanted orange, his favorite color, but it doesn't match anything in his room (yes I know it's in the closet and therefore isn't on display but one day it could be and I'd like it to match) so I compromised with orange drawers and a navy blue outside.

Here's the before...

And the after...

The shelf paper doesn't really match but it was the best I could find at the time.  It turned out pretty good I think and the best thing?  No smell!

6th Dinosaur Party!

This year my son wanted a dinosaur themed party so dinosaurs it was! Jess from Party Box Design designed the invitations, labels, stickers and signs for me...thank you Jess! Most everything I did myself with my trusty sidekick and bff...thanks Tara!  I was so thankful to have Vicki from Victoria Lynn Photography shoot the party.  And thanks also to my mom, dad and brother for helping me clean up.

Everyone had a great time and the investment on a second canopy was well worth it.  It was pretty hot and humid but we had plenty of shade.

Here we go...

Colors: Burlap (yea I know not a color but I used it everywhere)/ Brown/ Aqua/ Yellow/ Green/ Orange

"Dino Duke" banner...
Dino Duke signs on all the tables...
The sand pit (AKA pool covered in burlap) was a hit...
The buntings I sewed myself, a little tedious but they looked great...
Party Time...
Dessert/Treat Table
I made little dinosaur terrariums for each table.  A light lunch was served: sandwich wraps, chips and grapes...

Lots of snacks... peanuts...

Oreo popcorn...
Lave Tubes (or red jelly beans)...
The cake...

Sugar cookies: Pterodactyls & Dino D's
The Favor & Gift Table...

We even had a pinata (great Target find)...
Custom Dino Duke bath bombs from Feeling Smitten...adorable!
The kids favors included...a bath bomb, sticker book, dino rings, a dinosaur figure and dino pinchers.

AND...the birthday boy...he's so fierce!

I want to say a BIG thanks again to Jess from Party Box Design ,Courtney from Feeling Smitten and Vicki from Victoria Lynn Photography!!
