juicy reading

Have you met the Black Dagger Brothers?  If not- you must!  I was introduced by one of my besties Candy.  I liked the series so much I introduced them to my mom and some friends.  These are not you namby pamby Twilight-ish books...they are R rated.  :)

The problem with reading an entire series is you usually have to wait a year for the next book to come out!  *sigh* They are written by JR Ward who is a genius.  She also writes another series- The Fallen Angels- they are good but the brothers...oh my!  A must read!

Bring On Fall

While we didn't have much of a summer here in the pacific northwest I'm ready for fall!

This past weekend I spent an AMAZING weekend in the outdoors with about 150 other women.  I participated in women's outdoor retreat up in the woods where you learned all kinds of outdoor skills such as fly fishing, dutch oven cooking, archery, tracking, map and compass...you name it, they offered it.  I wasn't raised in an "outdoorsy" family but I married into it!  My husband is an avid fisherman and hunter so I thought it was time for me to expand my skills with this weekend workshop.  I took top 10 medicinals, survival skills and big game hunting as well as an emergency preparedness class.  The instructors were all so nice and supportive as well as all the participants.  Not only do you gain a plethora of knowledge but you meet a lot of wonderful women.  My next step is to pass my basic hunting skills class that you have to take through the state of Washington and then possibly next year a hunting trip with the hubsters!!  We're thinking about an archery season but who knows- I'm not convinced I can aim at what I'm pointing at so we'll see.  I encourage any woman to see if there is a program like this in your area- maybe check your state's Fish and Wildlife website because they are a lot of fun!!

Cake Vintage {feature}

A couple of weeks ago I was at our local pharmacy.  It's not just a pharmacy, they have tons of gifts, wine and kitchen gifts.  It's pretty upscale and I usually just do a lot of "looking".  I was on my way out the door with these papers caught my eye from Cake Vintage.

I loved these Cheese Serving Papers - instead of displaying your cheese on an actual tray you display your items on paper.  Pretty cool eh?  I thought it was a brilliant idea.  I had to check out the Cake Vintage website and they have quite a few clever items.

Check out this Table Wrap...100% eco friendly and comes in a 50 foot roll.

And fun placemats...comes in a pad with 50 placemats.  Just think no more stains on your cloth placemats, you can just throw these away after your dinner party!

Check out Cake Vintage for more fun ideas, you must take a look at the spoondelier!

Circus

This past weekend we went to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. This is the first time I had been, I always avoided them because of their treatment of animals and honestly I didn't feel okay going but I wanted to spend the time with my son and hubby.  I know the circus is known for their large animals and that is a big draw but do you really need to make an elephant sit up like a puppy?  Honestly I think it's ridiculous!  I had a hard time watching that part.

Aside from that the show was pretty good- I think the "humans" are more funny than any animal.  Don't get me started on the overpriced toys and treats!!

I snapped a few shots- you're not allowed to photograph during the actual show.  I did sneak one in at the end - it's a bit blurry though.

my new obsession

This little guy will result in a lot less bloggy posts.*sigh* Kindle = Awesomeness!

Soap Hope {Feature}

I would like to share with you a wonderful company that is not only offering fabulous bath and body products but using their profits from those sales to help empower women around the world.

Amazing Products
Premium all-natural products for your life
Body * Face * Home * Bath * Cosmetics

Amazing Mission
100% of profits go to life women from poverty
Healthcare * Education * Water * Opportunity

Here is how Soap Hope works...

Helping Women Everywhere.
We believe that every woman in the world who wants an opportunity to support herself and her family should have that opportunity. That's why we created the GOOD RETURNS business model on which Soap Hope was founded. It's simple: every dollar of profit earned by a Good Returns company goes first to an institution that uses it to solve world problems. After those profits have spent a year in service, the money is returned to Soap Hope. It's like the Peace Corps for money: we volunteer every dollar for a year of service.

Heart and Mind.

Soap Hope is a for-profit company with a non-profit mission. We designed the Good Returns model on purpose to combine the best of the business and non-profit worlds. Soap Hope runs with the efficiency and power of a business - then uses the profits with the heart of a nonprofit.

Women!
Women are the key to ending poverty. Women save more, invest more, and are more likely to use their earnings to educate their children and break the cycle of poverty. Soap Hope creates a wonderful connection between successful women and developing women: successful women buy our products, and developing women use our programs to lift themselves from poverty.

A Movement For Good.
Our goal is to be a model company that thousands of others will emulate. It will only take fifty companies in twenty cities across America to create one billion dollars for women worldwide. We started Soap Hope with a simple idea: provide healthful, wholesome, top-of-the-line products to customers - then use all the profits to help women in need at home and

Sounds pretty good doesn't it? You might be wondering what kinds of companies and products Soap Hope works with? Soap Hope works with well known companies that are offering top notch bath and body products. Indigo Wild happens to be one of my favorite companies- love the Frankincense and Myrrh goat's milk soap bar.  Along with Indigo Wild Soap Hope has teamed up with Badger, Biokleen, Fraiche, Hugo Naturals, Pangea Organics and many more.  You will also find a wide variety of products such as make up, soap, lotions, shower gel, candles & room mists, baby items, laundry soaps and even items for your pet!

Superhero Party & Giveaway

It all started with this custom invitation from Party Box Design.

I found some awesome yellow chevron print fabric and Jess included it in the invitation for me.  Basically everything was built around the fabric- is that crazy?  I purchased 5 yards of it so I knew I would be using a lot of it.

I started preparing for D-Man's party 6 months ago, collecting and making things I knew I wanted to include.  Now is it as fancy as some of those other parties you see out there? Probably not but the main thing is that everyone has fun.  The day was hot and very muggy.  Before my eyes things were melting and falling off boards...oh and it was windy.  So things didn't exactly go as planned but I'm working on "going with the flow".  My bestie flew in to help me and my husband was a huge help.  He has to do most of the heavy labor!

Okay so here goes... the lovely birthday banner is from Party Box Design.  Our whole backyard is fenced in so we decorated it with the banner and signage.  We created a "bat cave" with one of our dome tents.  Honestly I don't know how the kids could go in there it was so hot but they loved it!
The sweet 2 sided centerpieces that say "Duke's Super 5th Birthday" were created by The Purple Pug.  I made the capes to go with the "photo booth".

Oh and there's Mr. Wolverine...the birthday boy.
Below you'll find Wonder Woman and Elasta Girl (me and the bestie)  :)
I always go a little crazy with the party favors- It's probably my favorite part of a party.  I had so many this year I set up a favor station.  I spray painted my son's old diaper changing table blue and inserted the yellow chevron panels on the sides.  Since I didn't want the back open I also put up a blue chevron print.
I also created a matching thank you board that coordinated with his invitation.

Halfway through we had to peel him out of his costume and change into shorts and his cool Wolverine shirt we purchased from My Personalized Tees.

Menu
Superhero Drink Bottles for the kids
Bottled water (the mini kind- they are too cute)
Lightning Lemonade
Icy Iced Tea
Hero Sandwich
Pow Pasta Salad
Ka-Boom Kettle Chips
Wham Watermelon

Dessert
4 Layer Superhero Cake

The teacher in me always includes a craft, this year it was star keychains that the kids filled with sand.

Favors
For the adults I made Caped Push Pops filled with m&m's.

For the kids we had:
Cookies (I won these from a Rollin' in Dough giveaway)
Slingshot superheroes
Clippies I made for the girls (red, blue and yellow)
I made each child a Clue Keeper (included a homemade notebook and crayons), sort of like a crayon roll
Rescue Ropes (licorice)
Tattoos
Superhero Duckies
Superhero Bath Pops (from the awesome Feeling Smitten)
And in the lunchbox there were little bags filled with Pop Rocks and Superhero Gummies

I did have a few more things but sadly they melted in the scorching heat!  BOOHOO!

Each child picked out their own items and got to put them in those awesome superhero bags created by Cherished Blessings.

I wanted to include elements that I don't see in every other superhero party out there and hopefully I accomplished that.  The kids and adults had a wonderful time.  I'm not gonna lie I didn't get to rest much and was totally exhausted by the time it was all said and done.

This year I hired a photographer so my bff could actually enjoy the party instead of having to watch her three kiddos, party and take pictures.  I hired Vicki of Victoria Lynn Photography and she was wonderful!!!  I met with her beforehand and she totally "got" me and my vision of what I wanted.  She was on top of everything and each special event.  I even saw her book it across the yard when my mom and dad revealed his new bike.  She captured his face perfectly.  *sigh* I'm getting weepy just thinking about it.  Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's 5 now.  WAHHH!!!!

There are a lot more pictures of the guests but for privacy sake I just posted the decor, food, favors and a few of D-Man and myself.
