vacation properties

We spent a lovely sunny weekend driving through the Cascades to Leavenworth.  If you don't know much about Washington, we are divided by the Cascade Mountains.  I live on the western side where we get lots of rain, the eastern side gets lots of SUN!  It's very hot there.  Leavenworth is a Bavarian town, beyond fun!  They get tons of international travelers.  Perfect place to shop till you drop.

Anyway ...we looked at some vacation properties there right outside of Leavenworth.  It's just under 2 hours from our house plus the summers are usually always sunny.  We've had a really bad summer here, hardly any sun.  The properties ran from 49,000 (no septic or water) to 89,00.  This is just a small lot...ouch!  Not insane but then you have to think about what you're going to put on the property and the expense of it.  We'd probably start small with a trailer and then eventually a small cabin.

Who knows what will happen, we can dream right??

My son has been battling seasonal allergies for a couple of years now.  Usually it begins with sneezing and a drippy nose.  Then it progresses (like clockwork) to a very aggressive cough (and when I say aggressive I mean like every 5 seconds he's letting out a cough).  Sometimes he would throw up from all the coughing and post nasal drip.  Then after 2 days of that the coughing would stop and we might get a couple more days of the runny nose.  On numerous occasions his eyes would decide to get in on the action, they would get so red and puffy it looked like he had been socked in both eyes.

Not pretty.

Last year I took him to an ENT doctor and he prescribed my son a nose spray and said to use an over the counter allergy medicine such as Claritin or Zyrtec.  So we did that for awhile along with a humidifier and it seemed to work.

This summer they got really bad once again.  During one bout he was coughing so bad he started wheezing- that really scared me.  Off to the walk in clinic we went and the doctor did indeed hear the wheezing (duh!) and prescribed an inhaler.  During the next bout (2 weeks later) his eyes got so bad we went back to the walk in clinic and he was diagnosed with allergy conjunctivites and  prescribed eye drops.  The inhaler and the drops helped quite a bit.

I kept thinking to myself there has to be something better than all these bandaid fixes- but maybe not.  I decided to get a second opinion and took him to a allergy specialist that my friend takes her son to.  She was wonderful with D-Man (definite bonus) and she went ahead and did the dreaded allergy test on him (which by the way the former ENT would not do because he said D-Man was too young).  He endured the awful test like a trooper (it was super horrible for a mom to see- eck!).  He had an instant reaction to grass and pollen which we knew but we also found out he's severely allergic to dust mites.  AUGH!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I'm totally OCD about cleaning.  And yes I know you can't prevent dust mites they are everywhere!!  But still....so gross!!  Even more nasty for someone like me who's a germaphobe.  They gave us the dust mite speech (insert gagging) on what to do.  Of course when I got home I ordered encasings for his bedding and pillow from Allergy Control, hopefully this will help him!  Other than that she said his medications are fine and to just use the inhaler and eye drops as needed.

Now I know some children have it so much worse...with food allergies that can be deadly but this has been such an awful experience I thought I would reach and see if anyone else has had these issues?  If so...any tips??

the purple pug = fab {feature}

In the party world it's hard to find totally original and interesting party ideas and decor.  Well my friends...The Purple Pug has a fabulous NEW product launch (along with the re-opening of her shop).

Introducing Sweetheart Art...

Your little ones create the artwork, and when completed you send the art to Puggy. She then works her glitter magic creating unique partyware such as cupcake toppers or stickers.  So cute right?

Of course there are many wonderful products at The Purple Pug, but I had to share these.  Love them!!

You can check The Purple Pug HERE.

I had a couple of coupons for Twizzlers so I thought I would check out the candy aisle at the store today.  I was in luck- they were on sale...3 packages for 5 bucks.  I scored 3 big bags for 2.75 (I used three coupons at .75 off).  I've seen this rainbow style in pictures but never in the store (uh hello-- guess I'm living under a rock).  Anyway, tasty and fun...and a good deal!  Holla!

what's new?

This week has been super busy, sorry for the lack of posts.

We had a nice quiet fourth, with just us.  It was the first time we bought fireworks for munchkin pants.  We're not that into them...and we especially don't like spending a wad of cash on something that blows up.  He had so much fun with them...I mean Snakes--come on?!?...they're not exciting at all unless you're 4.  We let the neighbors spend all the money, they put on a good show.

I promised to blog a little bit about Vegas.  The hubby was there for a huge conference, 14,000 people to be exact, on top of the usual Vegas visitors.  I had a good time relaxing by the pool (munchkin pants had a sleepover at friends).  It was SOOO hot...well probably not hot to some of you but for us in the Northwest it was hot!  107 to be exact.  I was good and put on my sunscreen but missed a few spots, like the top of my feet...uh...yea...that hurts!!  Don't forget your feet!!!

We ate at some nice restaurants, ridiculous prices but that's pretty much standard through out Vegas.  We ate at Todd English's Olives at the Bellagio...super fancy!

We also saw the Blue Man Group at The Venetian...it was pretty good.  Half the time you sit there petrified because they go out into the audience and pull people up onto the stage-- I HATE THAT!  So I slumped down in my seat trying to look non interested and tried not to make eye contact!  lol!  They are amazing drummers though and it was funny.

We walked around the strip- saw the volcano explode at The Mirage and tried to see the pirate show at Treasure Island- waited a hour in the hot hot windy weather only to have it canceled due to the winds.  That was a bummer!  All in all we had fun, kind of short but it was nice to relax.

What else...

I finished up a blog design for Her Royal Heinous, Queen Bee...it turned out pretty cute!  The logo was designed by Magnolia Creative.

Have a great weekend!!

Just wanted to wish you all Happy Friday and a Happy 4th of July.  God Bless America!

handmade gift exchange

This year I participated in the Handmade Gift Exchange over at Craftaholoics Anonymous.  My exchange partner is all about lists and keeping organized (right up my alley!)  I put together a package with journals, clothespins, to do lists and tags.  Fun fun!!
