Did you watch?

I used to like James Franco...hmmm...his lack luster performance last night was a total snooze fest. And Anne Hathaway...meh! There were a couple of funny parts but for the most part- so boring.  I guess something about Hollywood patting themselves on the back that drives me crazy--I do like fancy dresses though...and I love going to the movies...ahem anyway...the opening was pretty good- Brown Duck.

Let's Organize

My baking/spice cupboard was really starting to annoy me. As I accumulate more baking supplies and tools I knew I needed to get it more organized. I had some time today...so don't cringe too hard at the "before"!  I know it's bad.  Instead of going out and buying a bunch of boxes - I just used what I had.  Tupperware!

We save our little tupperware containers that our lunchmeat comes in... I think it's Hillshire Farms or something.  Anyhoo just send them through the dishwasher and they are good to go.  Also someone with my sort of personality has a love love relationship with her label maker...so I put that to good use too.  *sigh* so much better!

Oh and yes I did clean up my mom cave too--remember the crap table?  er craft table?  Munchkin pants even helped me!

Double Peanut Butter Paisley Brownies

  • 1/2 cup of butter or margarine softened
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 2/3 cups peanut butter chips (I used Reese's)
  • 1/2 cup Hershey's syrup
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease 13x9x2 baking pan.
  2. Beat butter and peanut butter in large bowl.  Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat well.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Blend in vanilla.
  3. Stir together flour, baking powder & salt; mix into peanut butter mixture, blending well.  Stir in peanut butter chips.  Spread half of batter in prepared pan; spoon syrup over top.  Carefully top with remaining batter; swirl with metal spatula or knife for marbled effect.
  4. Bake 35-40 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool completely in pan on wire rack.  Cut into squares.  About 36 brownies.

The Grammys

Did you watch the Grammy's?  I watched about an hour and half of it...I thought there were some good performances...my favorite had to be the Mumford and Sons.  While I love Bob Dylan...he was a bit rough.

Okay here's Mumford and Sons...first act...love love love!!!

Valentine Presents

This year for D-Man's teachers we made little cookie bites that I frosted with X's & O's and hearts...of course.  Packaged them up in jars with tags and twine.

Also for the preschool director I made peanut butter paisley bars...oh my SO GOOD!!!  I'll try and post a recipe soon!

Packaged up the bars in a cute little tin with bow and tag...simple and sweet!

Valentine Playdate/Party

My bff and her kiddos (the little bff's) came over today for a playdate/party.  I wanted to make it super fun for the kids so we decorated valentine cookies, played a few games and ate lots and lots of snacks.  Here are a few pictures...

One thing that I learned from years of teaching preschool and hosting parties was to give each child their own sprinkles and frosting.  You know there is going to be lots of finger licking and "taste testing" --this way keeps germs  somewhat in check.  Cookies bags for the ride home...and lots of favors.  It's not a TRUE party without some fun favors to take with you!

I thought it was funny to see the different styles of decorating...
While the two babies didn't get to decorate they each got their own special age appropriate party favor and lots of snacks to munch on.

Oh yes, I did have some healthy options...and yes those are our hidious blue counter tops.  We'll probably be upgrading to a bigger house within the next year or so...I just have to suck it up and try not cringe when I see them in pictures!

And in the interest of full disclosure...check out my mess of a craft table -- this is just one...I have no desire to clean it right now...so there ya go...

My Main {{Squeeze}}

Tomorrow is the Hubs birthday.  This past weekend I surprised him with a get together at our favorite local Mexican restaurant.  I've never really surprised him with a birthday party and while it was low key I swear he figured it out...but he didn't!  I had Jess from PBD design an invitation for the event...

My parents even drove an hour up to watch Munchkin Pants for us.  All evening (before the party) the Hubs was so confused and getting anxious about our "date night"...he doesn't like to be surprised--oh well!  lol  I also made some cookies...now don't laugh!  It was my first time drawing on cookies (you think I would have done something easier!).  The cookies were so yummy!!  I've done a lot of research on cookie decorating/supplies/techniques/recipes etc.  He did see the first part of the cookie process but after I decorated them...I drove them over to my friends house before he could see the finished favor.

We arrived at the restaurant and everyone was there...he was really surprised!  YAH!  We had a great evening with lots of laughing, eating/drinking and celebrating!

Mushy part ahead...read on at your own risk...

10 reasons (in no particular order...and there are more reasons...but I don't want to get too long winded) why I'm so lucky to have this wonderful man in my life!
  1. He tells me I'm beautiful...even when I look like I've been run over by a bus.
  2. He's works hard (many late hours) to provide for his family.
  3. He's sooooo funny!  Five years later he still cracks me up...like belly laugh crack up.
  4. He's HOT!  Currently he's rockin' some sexy chops...think Hugh Jackman "Wolverine" minus the claws.
  5. He's super smart...probably the smartest guy I know...not just saying that either.  He knows a lot about a lot of things.
  6. He's an awesome Dad to our Munchkin Pants.
  7. I took over his office...now it's my Mom Cave...and he's okay with that.  He's supportive of everything I do--whether it's crafts, projects, working- not working, making money-not making money...just as long as I'm happy.  How cool is that?
  8. He's calm, cool and collected ... when I'm not.
  9. He has a strong faith/relationship with the Lord.  (Now I know this under the "hot" comment...but remember- no particular order)
  10. He's my best friend.
Love you honey...Happy Birthday!  (by the way...he doesn't read my blog...so I'm not trying to score brownie points)

Felt Fortune Cookies

Super easy and inexpensive felt fortune cookies...via Martha Stewart

You'll need:
  • felt
  • florist wire
  • glue
  • paper strips for the fortune
  • candy
  • ribbon
  • wire cutters
1. Cut the felt in a circle (about 4 1/2 inches across).
2. Cut a piece of ribbon (just a smidgy shorter) and a piece of wire a bit shorter than the ribbon.
3. Glue the wire down the middle of the circle (the original instructions said craft glue, but I just used hot glue, much faster).
4. Glue ribbon on top of wire (don't burn fingers if using hot glue!).
5. Write on your strip of paper and place inside with a few pieces of candy.

Fold your felt fortune cookie and you're done! These would be perfect for loved ones, teacher gifts, hostess gifts, you name it! Thanks Martha (and your staff of hundreds...possibly thousands).

Serve up in a take out box...so cute.
