I'd like to introduce you to another fabulous shop...
I was searching superhero items on Etsy the other day and ran across this fun shop. They have some cool superhero themed bags that I seriously want to get my hands on- they would be perfect for D-Man's party.
Of course there are a ton of other whimsical creations...so cute!!! Check them out...
Have you seen these cool sticker machines by Xyron? I had never heard of them until my BFF told me about them and how she uses hers for scrapbooking letters.
Well...she bought me the 2.5" model for Christmas. You just feed whatever item you want through the opening you see there in the picture- turn the handle and out it comes on the other side as a sticker! Cool eh?
You can use it for a lot of your crafting needs...even fabric! I'm having a lot of fun with it.
I think you can buy them at most stores like Michaels or Walmart.
So excited to check out the swanky Biltmore Resort/Hotel. We made reservations for High Tea and it was so much fun. Our host was very enthusiastic (to say the least) and was more then helpful in suggesting certain teas...he took his job very seriously. :)
We were served three courses, everything was delicious. It took about three hours, but it was all worth it!! It seems like no matter how fancy dancy I try to be I end spilling something on myself. At least it was just water!
We walked around the grounds after the tea, the property is just beautiful. Will definitely look into staying here in the future.
Oh and lookie what I found in the gift shop. My favorite cupcaker's bath bombs (Feeling Smitten) in THREE locations in the shop! So fun!
Okay if you didn't know...I have a small obsession with cupcakes. I knew I wanted to head to Sprinkles but then we got the idea to go on a Cupcake Tour! A few places were closed since it was a Monday and MLK Jr. Day but we did manage to drag ourselves to four shops. Here are a few pictures and my thoughts on each...
Cupcake Shop #1 Sprinkles
I was so excited to check out Sprinkles, they are hailed as the "the original cupcake bakery". Hmmm...is that true? I don't know, it sounds cool though.
We got their early (they open at 9am). The gals behind the counter were very nice and let me snap as many pictures as I wanted. We chose a Red Velvet (my favorite) and the Black & White. Oh my they were sooo good! The perfect frosting to cake ratio. Nothing negative to say about these cupcakes.
Oh one thing...I'm not sure what the little star topper was made out of- but it was nasty! yuck! So I guess that's a negative comment.
Bought a shirt-- paid way too much but it's a nice souvenir.
Cupcake Shop #2 Cup Cakes
Not impressed at all with this shop!!! I guess they have been on Cupcake Wars because they had their display in the shop, you can kind of see it in the 2nd picture on the left. The shop was very sparse and honestly when I got a look at the cupcakes behind the glass I didn't even want to pick one. I've never seen such awful looking cupcakes. It was like luster dust (or whatever that shimmery stuff is they put on cupcakes/cakes) exploded all over the cupcakes. And sorry but just because a cupcake is shiny doesn't mean it looks good! We decided to split a chocolate/peanut butter cupcakes (because it looked the best out all of them).
The frosting was dense and there was way too much on the cupcake. The cake part was okay, but not excellent. Other than that there's not much more to say about this place. Not a fan!
Cupcake Shop #3 Tammie Coe Cakes
This shop was more of a sweets bakery, so they had cakes, breads, pastries, etc.
I chose a mini cupcake (honestly the larger ones did not look so good), Coconut. The cupcake while yummy was cold and hard...hard because it was cold. Not a big fan of cold cupcakes, they should be served at room temp.
Cupcake Shop #4 Sweet Daddy Cupcakes
What was cool about this shop was the cupcakes were a larger size than the standard cupcake size so you felt like you were getting more for your money. The guys behind the counter were pretty funny, they are actually going to be on Cupcake Wars soon so I'll be curious to see that!
We took home (on sugar high at this point) a Carrot Cake and Smores cupcake. They were both very good...didn't care for the Smores as much as the Carrot--very moist and tasty frosting.
So that ends the tour...it was a lot of fun and when we told the cupcake shops we were on a tour, they got a kick out of it. I would have to say the Sprinkles were the best - with Sweet Daddy a close second.
Back from Arizona...I all ready miss the sun! The weather was SO BEAUTIFUL. Came home to clouds and rain- boohooo!
I had a total blast with my BFF. I encourage all you moms to get some mommy time if you can. It really does give you time to relax, refresh and rejuvenate!
We spent our time shopping, went to see Black Swan (have you seen this movie? tell me what you think!), we went to tea at the Biltmore, went on a cupcake tour, lots of eating out with friends, and just hung out laughing & reminiscing and watching Twilight Saga movies.
I'm going to post the tea and cupcake tour photos in separate posts.
Here are a few pics of my friend's backyard. Coming from a place that is all green it's always a shock when I visit Arizona...it's pretty flat and tan...lol. Beautiful in it's own way- definitely different from Seattle.
I only have one kiddo and I always like to make his birthdays extra special. And yes I plan WAY in advance...that's how I am...annoying? Probably...but I know I'm not the only one so I take comfort in that.
Last year we had a carnival theme and this year I was really looking for something more original and unique. I had my mind set on a Camp Out theme...tents, campfire, scavenger hunt, smores favors in little cute boxes... I mentioned it my 4 year old. He wanted none of it! Darn it!! I asked him what he wanted then and well...Super Heroes it is. *sigh* At least it's not Chuck E. Cheese right?
Super Heroes it is...trying to avoid the commercialized ones and stick with this little guy above. Isn't he cute...that's D-Man but he's cuter in "real life". We'll have fun with it...capes, city scape pictures, games, each guest in a costume?? Yea...we'll have a blast! And planning has officially begun!! WELL after I get back from Arizona- I leave tomorrow. Viva Las Arizona!
Today we were off to our bff's boys birthday party!
For G I ordered this super groovy custom tee from Toy Box Tees. There are lots of colors and styles to choose from.
I've also been experimenting with different play dough recipes. I used to make it ALL the time when I taught preschool...adding different scents, colors, glitter, etc. I found this recipe for kool aid play dough and it turned out pretty awesome.
I also made Doodle Paint via Lil Boo & Co's recipe here. I of course took advantage of the free label printables. They add just the right touch!
For D's present - I went with a "creative play" theme, because seriously this boy has just about everything! I packaged up some play dough, the doodle paint, cardstock paper, a few little activities and a handy tray thinga majigger to keep it all in.
I think homemade or personalized presents mean so much more to the recipient no matter what age!
Okay...sooo I'm totally *smitten* with gnomes. Is that strange? I'd love to have a garden full of little gnomes and fairies. Hmmm I know I'm not the only one because I put together a little gnome treasury on Etsy and there is A LOT of gnome love out there!
